HI. I'M KATHERINE.

i'm an illustrator and art director currently living in new york city.

i spend my days concepting and creating all kinds of unique and interesting projects in my head, on paper and on the computer. i love what i do, and my unique background has helped me develop a strategic understanding of how to use creativity to solve problems and make beautiful work.

 

for the past six years, i've worked in the widely varied worlds of advertising, fashion, and stationery. i've been a brand manager at an ethical fashion, collegiate apparel start-up, an illustrator and head of marketing at a luxury boutique letterpress stationery company, and most recently an art director at an internationally recognized ad agency working on huge brands like aussie, verizon and chase. 

at the same time, i've been running my own design and illustration brand on the side since 2009. i've worked with a huge array of businesses and clients on everything from custom home portraits to brand identity systems to gorgeous wedding stationery.

while building my business acumen and creative development, i'm always continuing to bolster my technical abilities with classes at the School of Visual Arts in everything from illustration to printmaking to cartooning.

I'm an art director and illustrator based in NYC. I solve creative problems using experience and strategy, and I love what I do.

As a freelancer, I work with a wide array of publications, small businesses and clients to create editorial and brand illustrations, and also with a number of agencies on ad campaigns for brands like Lay's, Tresemmé and Nespresso. Fun fact: I'm also a published children's book illustrator.

For the past 7 years, I've gained loads of experience in the diverse creative fields of advertising, fashion, and stationery. Before freelance life, I was an Art Director at mcgarrybowen working on Aussie (P&G), Verizon and Chase. Prior to that, I led the design team creating illustrations and stationery for ladies who lunch at a luxury letterpress boutique, and before that I was a Brand Manager (and employee #4) for an ethical fashion, collegiate apparel start-up that grew from 10 to 125 accounts in 1 year down in North Carolina.

I learned how to think at UVA, and i learned how to draw from life, screen print and more at SVA. 

I like: traveling, neon colors, collecting seashells and eating fish tacos.
